Trans activist Senator condemns Amy Hamm from behind a block, caWsbar responds

Our letter to Raymonde Gagné, Speaker of the Senate, regarding atrocious comments made on X by Senator Kristopher Wells

The Honourable Raymonde Gagné

Speaker of the Senate

Senate of Canada

Ottawa ON  K1A 0A4

Dear Madame Speaker:

It has come to our attention that the Honourable Member for Alberta, Senator Kristopher Wells, has been blocking citizens on X (formerly Twitter), oftentimes after commenting to people behind that block and therefore not giving a right of reply.

The most recent and egregious comment was directed toward one of our founding members of Canadian Women’s Sex-Based Rights, (caWsbar) Amy Hamm, in response to her governing body releasing their decision this past Thursday, August 14, 2025, about her employment as a nurse in British Columbia.

Please find attached the comment [seen below]. It’s a screenshot from his account as I’m blocked also and therefore unable to share the link.

Ms. Hamm’s response, linked below, features a screenshot from fellow caWsbar founding member Esme Vee, underscoring the decorum and 'sober second thought' the Senate is meant to uphold — qualities notably absent in this instance.

It is our understanding that after a federal court case involving Ezra Levant of Rebel News and the former Environment Minister, Steven Gilbeault, an order was issued by Federal Court Justice Russel Zinn to the Minister, to unblock him.

“Mr. Levant argued that his inability to see or respond to Guilbeault's posts on the platform limited his ability to engage in debate on matters of public concern.

The order issued by Judge Zinn ends an action Levant filed two years ago claiming the Liberal minister was violating his constitutional rights by blocking him.”

Based on this ruling, we respectfully request that you advise Senator Wells of his legal obligations to the Canadian public while engaging on social media.

At caWsbar, we are committed to exercising our rights as Canadian citizens to hold elected and unelected officials accountable when their statements, decisions, or actions disregard, diminish, or endanger women’s hard-won sex-based Charter rights and the protections owed to children.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Heather Mason
